Through advanced computer simulations and deep-sky surveys, cosmologists have discovered that matter is not distributed randomly. Instead, it forms a gargantuan network known as the Cosmic Web. Vast filaments of dark matter span millions of light-years, guiding the flow of gas and acting as the scaffolding upon which galaxies are born and clustered. Between these bright filaments lie empty expanses—cosmic voids—measuring tens of millions of light-years across, where virtually no matter exists.
